A VISUAL POEM

I shot this short piece on my Super 8mm camera during a month long visit to the Cape while road tripping on a production. Over the years, I’ve been blessed with very special encounters and experiences out there, which I wanted to reflect on with this piece. The film is edited to an old recording I found of an acapella group called Passion Drives Us, who seem to have faded with time — but truly capture the heart of South Africa’s sound.

I’d also like to give a shout out to Darg, a non-profit that rescues, cared for and rehomes previously abused, neglected or abandoned animals. Introduced to me by producer extraordinaire Helmke Moller.

As one of the world’s leading production hubs, Cape Town’s filmmaking community welcomes us with open arms every year. And if, like me, you’ve had the opportunity to experience working there, consider supporting a grassroots organisation of your choice when you next visit. And contribute to this amazing place that give us filmmakers so much.

Shot on a mix of Kodak Vision 3 50D, Ektachrome 100 & 500T.

Thanks to Cape Film Supply for the stock. Developed by Super 8 Reversal Lab in The Hague and scanned digitally by Onno Petersen. And big love to all those who made this trip possible.
